Message from the President
Welcome to the 2015-16 season of the Guitar Society of Toronto!
I am honoured to greet you as the newly elected president of this venerable organization, and am well aware of the responsibility of heading up one of the oldest and most respected guitar societies in the world. The Society was founded by Eli Kassner in 1956: this season we will be celebrating of our 60th anniversary! We begin with a special reception at our first concert in September, and continue throughout the year.
Join us for the Toronto Guitar Weekend next April, which will build on the excitement of last year’s event with a Brazilian themed weekend featuring Celso Machado and Carlos Barbosa-Lima, as well as Steve Cowan, winner of the 2015 Montreal Guitar Competition. Carlos and Celso have a history in Toronto, having performed here numerous times in the life of the Society.
As you know, we are a not-for-profit organization, and depend on the generous support of both our donors and volunteers. We are so grateful to our sponsors and partners; we could not do what we do without them!
Let’s make this season one to remember, and build upon for the next 60 years.
