Welcome to the 2017-18 season of the Guitar Society of Toronto!
The season opens September 16 with a concert by the extraordinarily versatile American guitarist David Leisner. As you can see on our Concerts page, we continue throughout the year with many exciting international artists coming to perform for us. The regular season will conclude in March with the return to Toronto of the Grammy Award winning virtuoso David Russell, who has not performed here in many years.
April will feature the fifth version of our very popular Toronto Guitar Weekend – a wonderful opportunity to spend a few days of total immersion in guitar! This year we are proud to feature the brilliant Argentinian guitarist and composer Maximo Diego Pujol. Once again, the Guitar Society of Toronto presents the exclusive Canadian debut of a major international artist! It promises to be another fun and educational weekend, with lectures, luthier fair, master class, and open mic, as well as the tremendously popular Brunch with the Artists.
We are happy to be able to continue to present classical guitar performances in schools, made possible with a grant from the Kenneth G. Mills Foundation. We support local guitar students by way of the President’s Bursary, awarded annually in October. Our community guitar orchestra offers guitarists of all ages and levels an opportunity to learn and perform in an ensemble setting, and our Café Concert series is an opportunity to listen or perform in a relaxed atmosphere with friends. Information about all of these can be found on our web site.
As you know, we are a not-for-profit organization, and depend on the generous support of our donors, sponsors and volunteers. We are so grateful; we could not do what we do without them!
I am honoured to hold the position of President of this venerable organization, one of the oldest and most respected guitar societies in the world. I hope you will consider becoming involved, as a member, donor, or volunteer. Check out the Membership and Donor information on the web site, and don’t hesitate to contact us – we want to hear from you!
Let’s make this season another one to remember!
Heather Morand Clark,
President
