About the Artists

Goni-Perretta Duo

The musical collaboration between Antigoni Goni and Eleonora Perretta is a harmonious meeting of generations, cultures, and artistic perspectives. What began as a teacher–student relationship at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (KCB) soon evolved into a dynamic artistic partnership, nurtured by mutual respect, admiration, and a rich exchange of ideas.

At the core of their duo are creativity, curiosity, and a shared commitment to exploring the classical guitar’s vast expressive potential. Their artistic vision is to reveal the instrument’s narrative power and emotional depth by drawing on its orchestral richness, colourful palette, and remarkable versatility.

This vision finds its first recorded expression in the music of Dušan Bogdanović, whose bold and genre-defying compositions resonate deeply with their artistic approach. His distinctive musical language provided the ideal project through which to officially launch their collaboration—an endeavor the composer himself described as “splendid and glorious.”

Antigoni Goniis an internationally acclaimed soloist and recording artist, sought after pedagogue and festival organizer, whose artistry and expertise is in great demand internationally” Maurice Summerfield, Classical Guitar Magazine

Antigoni Goni’s career gained major momentum after winning the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America Competition in the mid-1990s. This achievement launched an extensive North American tour of over sixty concerts and secured her a recording contract with Naxos Records.

She has since performed globally at some of the world’s most renowned venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Covent Garden, and Wigmore Hall in London. Her recordings have been widely praised for their expressive depth and technical brilliance. Her album Hymn to the Muse, inspired by Greek culture, has been especially celebrated, with critics describing it as an exceptional contribution to the classical guitar repertoire.

Beyond performing, Goni is deeply involved in education and artistic development. She founded the Guitar Department at Juilliard’s Pre-College Division, where she also taught for a decade. Since 2005, she has served as Professor of Guitar at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she was named “Professor of the Year” in 2015—the youngest recipient of the Madame de la Hault prize. She also established the Brussels Guitar Laboratory and founded the Volterra Project, a summer guitar institute in Tuscany.

Her multimedia project Medio Siglo pays tribute to master luthier José Luis Romanillos, combining a limited-edition vinyl release with a documentary capturing the essence of his final instruments.

Goni performs on exceptional instruments, including a 1989 José Romanillos guitar and a 2012 Andrea Tacchi guitar.
